Following on from the investments made at the municipal beach park to stimulate economic growth in Emélin, Mayor Martin Héroux officially inaugurated a new section of footpath linking the heart of Emélin to the Sentier de la Matawinie, an integral part of the National Trail.
At just over 3.5 km in length, the Ravage trail makes Sainte-Émélie-de-l'Énergie an ideal stop-off point for long-distance hikers. On the same occasion, the Refuge du Cerf was also presented to the guests.
With the connection between the beach park, the "Slye" trails, the Kaël lake trails and the future GR-A Lanaudois (Grande Randonnée Aventure), Sainte-Émélie-de-l'Énergie is taking a concrete stand in favor of active travel, opening up a huge playground accessible directly on foot from the village.
All in all, the ravage trail and its facilities represent an investment of just over $180,000. This fine project was made possible thanks to $105,507.40 (59%) from the Ministère de l'Éducation du Québec, $38,497.36 (21%) from Loisir et sport Lanaudière and $36,001.20 (20%) from the municipality of Sainte-Émélie-de-l'Énergie, as part of the Réseau GR-A Lanaudois project.
The refuge is currently available for rental at a cost of $150 per night. For reservations, visit the Matawinie Regional Parks website: refuge du Cerf, Sentiers de la "Slye" and lac Kaël. Sleeps up to six.
The municipal council would like to thank all those who contributed in any way to this great success, be they financial partners, owners, businesses, municipal employees or volunteers.
